Deoban Trek

Deoban Trek, just like Nag Tibba trek is a great weekend trek for beginners as well as advanced level trekkers with a rewarding experience. This trek will allow you to witness the amazing beauty of the Himalayas without having to walk too much. The name of this trek is derived from two words “Deo” which stands for Deodar trees which are abundant in this area and “Ban” which means forest.

This trek provides a great opportunity to those who want to spend weekends away from the hustle and bustle of city life and get some peace and alone time in the lap of the Himalayas.

On the trek, you will be able to view the magnificent peaks of Sawargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Kedarnath and others.

Short Itinerary

Day 1

Drive from Dehradun to Lokhandi & Trek to Saraswati

On the first day of the Deoban trek, you will be picked from Dehradun & we will drive to Lokhandi through the famous hill town of Chakrata. On the 5 hour drive, you will be able to witness the sheer beauty of the Himalayas with waterfalls and deodar trees on the way. 

Lokhandi is a small village with picturesque views all around. This is the base camp for Deoban Trek, we will start walking towards Saraswati campsite which is located a short distance from Lokhandi. Walking on the paved road, you will find yourself surrounded by pine and deodar trees. If you are visiting during winters, you will find this area covered with snow.

As we will reach closer to our campsite, the trail will get slightly steep. Overnight stay will be in camps at Saraswati campsite.

Day 2

Saraswati to Vyas Shikhar & Koti Kansar & Drive to Dehradun

After having breakfast we will start early in the morning as we have a long day ahead of us. We will start walking on a steep trail with a gradually descending gradient. Once again we will cross the dense deodar forest and enter a clearing where you will be able to get mesmerizing views of the Greater Himalayas.

6 Km away from the clearing is the highest point of the trek at Vyas Point. Located at an altitude of 3,000 m. We will spend some time admiring the beauty of the Greater Himalayan range. After having lunch, we will start walking down towards Koti Kansar. From there we will drive back to Dehradun.

 

Trekking Tips

  • Carry an insulated water bottle so that you can have access to hot water throughout the year.
  • Don’t pack heavily for the trek, only carry necessary items and clothes (2-3 layers of light clothing)
  • There is limited network availability after Lokhandi, make sure to call your loved ones before you reach there.

Best Time to Visit Deoban Trek

Nag Tibba is a great weekend trek that can be visited in any season from summers to winters. It is generally not advised to go on this trek during the monsoon season because the trail gets slippery and prone to landslides. If you want to experience snow, the winter season is the best time to embark on this journey.

How difficult is Deoban Trek

Nag Tibba is an easy trek and is great for beginners, the trail is short and can be completed by beginner or experienced trekkers.

What to Carry on Deoban Trek

This is a brief list of things that you should carry on the trek to make the experience more memorable and much more comfortable - 

  • Woollen clothes like sweaters, thermals, pairs of gloves, caps, mufflers, socks.
  • Heavy and complete three to five clothing layers are minimal during Winter as the weather might get unpredictable. Light woollen is enough for summer trips.
  • Windproof jacket
  • Hiking shoes, Snow boots, sandals or slippers
  • Walking stick or a trekking pole
  • Accessories like sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen lotions, lip balm, headlamp, torch with extra batteries.
  • Toiletries: Sanitizer, tissues, liquid soaps, paste and toothbrush
  • Medicines: Diamox for altitude sickness, essential medicines for headache, stomach upset, and regular medication if you are taking any, band-aids, volini spray, and anything else.
  • Power bank
  • Raincoat, extra shirts/t-shirts, and trekking pants
  • Identity card and photocopies.
  • Insulated water bottle
  • Woollen fleece jackets
  • Few poly bags to keep any wet clothes. 
  • Energy bars, biscuits, chocolates, dry fruits to munch, and ORS or Glucose to not drain energy.
  • Camera with extra memory cards, batteries, chargers.

 

Network & Connectivity

Good network connectivity of all the major networks like Airtel, Jio, Idea, Bsnl are available till Lokhandi but there is no connectivity available on the trail.

ATMs

The last ATM is available at Lokhandi but trekkers are advised to withdraw cash from Chakrata or Dehradun because the ATM sometimes remains out of cash.
